Things To Come - I´m Not Talkin
The first of all, thanks to Kenny Utterback for the information and pictures, without his help this would not have been possible.
The Things To Come were from Wheaton, Illinois, in the Chicago area, a four piece combo, formed by Ken Ashley, real name Kenneth Utterback, singer and lead guitar, George Heatherton, real name Richard Cureton, bass, Keith St. Micheal, real name Thomas Keith Mirabile and the only one who maintained his real mame was the drummer Cliff Harrison. This was idea of Bill Trout from Dunwich records.
The origin of Things To Come was the Escavels, Kenny Utterback first band, formed between 64-65, They won the Talent Teen Contest in 1965, and after this they played in a battle of the bands at the Arie Crown Theate at McCormick Place in Chicago where they took second or third placeand won the opportunity to recorded two original songs, that unfortunately were lost.
In this time they used Fender equipment, Bassman amps and jazzmaster guitar was the Kenny equipment
Things To Come was formed just after high school, and played the Cellar in Arlington Heights and other local teen nightclubs. The owner/manager of the Cellar (Paul Sampson) knew Bill Trout, from Dunwich, and introduced them.
The band was only together for a year, and in this time they recorded three songs at Sound Studios in Chicago, I´m Not Talkin b/w `Till The End, relesed by Dunwich and Don't Stay That Way, that, like the Escavel´s songs is unrelesed.
In this time Kenny went into Guild guitars and amps, using a Thunderbird amp and a Bluesbird guitar.
In the studio, they used the free equipment, clean sounding amps for recording, probably Fender Princetons and amps like that. On the 45, he used a Fuzz Face fuzztone for the overdrive sound of the lead guitar.
